The new book I have just started is Swimsuit by James Patterson. This book is an adventure for me because it is a murder mystery genre of book. I've never read this type of book before, so I'm going to be honest, I was legitimately scared to start reading this in fear of being completely uninterested in and putting it down. I know it's okay to just put a book down if I'm not into it, but I made a big hype about this book inside my head and so I figure I have to finish it. It's a very quick read since each chapter is only maybe a maximum of 3 pages each so it flies by fast. This also helps me out because I cannot stop reading a book in the middle of a chapter. It drives me NUTS! But back to the actual story line of the book. Within the first couple of chapters, a lot happens to the young girl. You discover that a gorgeous (Victoria's Secret material) model, Kim, was doing a photo shoot in Hawaii when she was abruptly kidnapped. Her kidnapper then puts her in the trunk of the car with her hands and feet binded together. He then takes her to an unknown place and rapes her... on camera. Key word there: on camera. After he's had his "fun," he murderers Kim. The story then leads into the kidnapper, and now murderer, of calling Kim's parents, which awakes them in the middle of the night, and tells them that Kim is in bad hands. Her parents rush to the airport with no luggage and hope to get to Hawaii as soon as they possibly can. Remember when I mentioned that the murderer had video taped the raping? It was as if the video camera was a glass window for the video was being broadcasted live to an audience.. Turns out that a group of men had paid this guy to rape Kim and "put on a show" for them. I ended my reading for the week with the group of guys asking for him to entertain them with another victim of a similar crime. I'm disappointed that I already know that Kim gets killed in the end but maybe the rest of it will be good. I keep getting dragged into these dark, graphic stories, but I can't help it! I find them rather fascinating.
I like the cheek of a movie company releasing a movie that goes back to the very start of movie making, without special effects or cussing every sentence. It's very vintage, and nostalgic. I'll be sure to see it soon!
